Evacuation Signs by ADA Signs Wholesale

Evacuation Signs by ADA Signs Wholesale

Evacuation Signs are often included in the ADA Sign specs given to sign shops or building managers by the architect. Sometimes when the evacuation sign specs are received, the sign shop or the building manager, or whoever else may be in charge isn’t quite sure what to do with those evacuation sign drawings. We can help, and we can include it in the wholesale ADA Sign order!

Naturally, we all realize that the evacuation signs are very important. As of this writing (Thursday May 25th, 2017), ff you visit OSHA’s website you will see their guidelines for evacuation procedures. Additionally, Osha’s website has a page with an example evacuation map. If you would like to see the text from the Occupational Safety and Health Standards that pertains to evacuation,  It is currently available here, and it is in this section: 1910.38(c).

Besides OSHA insisting that you have evacuation routes posted, and an evacuation plan in place, don’t you want visitors and employees to easily and safely leave your building in an emergency? The Evacuation Map is clearly not a sign you can afford to skip. So don’t!

What to do with those Evacuation Route specs often included in your ADA sign specs from your architect?  A few things:

Evacuation route signs could save your business from a large number of terrible outcomes, if they are easily visible and properly placed.
Your ADA Signage throughout your business, has a uniform look. People notice the ADA Signage, even if that individual has no obvious need for the ADA features of the sign. ADA Signs stand out and scream, “Look at me! I’m official!” This is the same message your evacuation route signs should send.

In an emergency, the evacuation route signage, the ADA Signage and the Exit signs must be clear.

ADA Signs Wholesale is already covering your ADA Signs, so why not add on your evacuation signs, as well? The only other option is to pay full price for them elsewhere. Skipping the evacuation route signage is never an option.

Did you know that March 1st, 2017 is the deadline for compliance with California Assembly Bill 1732. In case you’re not familiar with this bill, you can see the full text, here.

In the meantime, here’s a direct quote from the California bill:

Requires all single-user toilet facilities in any business establishment, place of public accommodation, or state or local government agency to be identified as all-gender toilet facilities, and designated for use by no more than one occupant at a time or for family or assisted use, beginning March 1, 2017.

Additionally, did you know that several cities and states already have similar bills in place, or are considering adding the laws?

See California State Assembly Bill 1732.

As of this date, Monday February 13, 2017, a search of the web shows us that several states and cities already have legislation in place for adding Gender Neutral Signage to single-user restroom facilities. Since your city or state could be next to enact a law, maybe it’s time to consider getting ahead of the order and getting your gender neutral signage in place, now.

Even if gender neutral single-user facility signage isn’t yet a requirement in your city or state, it’s still helpful to let visitors to your establishment know that the restroom in question is intended for use by all.

Below is a list of the states and cities (that we found) which already have gender neutral ADA sign requirements. If we’ve missed one, please let us know. We want this list to be as accurate as possible.

New construction or renovation of buildings typically require ADA Braille signs in order to open. Medical facilities, hotels, schools and state owned facilities require braille engraved room signage, stairway identification, fire escapes and wayfinding signage.

Typically, there is a general contractor or project manager gathering bids for the project.  The ideal next step is to submit a bid for signage.  In order to accomplish this you’ll need to connect with general contractors/project managers before the submittal date. You may ask…How do I find out about future bid dates?

The Blue Book is an excellent resource for gathering vital information. It lists general contractors and their contact info.  Signs PDQ is a member of  The Builder’s Exchange, one of several groups that provides vital information.   Connecting with these decision makers and beginning that relationship is key. The estimator of the project is a good contact person.

Ask questions! Develop relationships! Soon you will find yourself the person they ask questions of and you can find yourself receiving bids, specs and plans. Relationships you build are key for future success.

Signs PDQ: Finding the Right ADA Customer is Your Key to Success!

Happy ADA Signs Wholesale Customers

The Right ADA Customer

When it comes to signs finding the right customer is the key to success.  Signs PDQ finds that General Contractors are typically in need of ADA signs.  Finding these general contractors is the first step.  Perhaps your city has the “Bluebook”.  This book lists names of contractors that will be bidding jobs.  See if you can locate your local Builder’s Exchange or Dodge Reports.

Yes, there is a membership fee but they usually offer a no cost trial period.  Contacting the General Contractor is key in this process. This call will begin this relationship. Signs PDQ finds that contacting the estimating department is a good place to begin.  Ask if they have a prequalification form and how to get it.  Be timely in filling out the form…this is their first impression of  your reliability. Ask them how you can receive bids from them. Each contractor’s routine may be unique.   Soon you will be on their bid list and on your way to receiving bids on a regular basis.

Signs PDQ discusses Pre Bid Meetings…More Opportunties for Signage

General Contractors are putting together bids in order to come up with their best total dollar amount in order to win the bid.  Having a competitive bid from subcontractors in a timely fashion is what they are looking for. Pre Bid meetings and  Bid due dates are on the bid request form.  Attending Pre Bid meetings is an excellent way to meet people representing the General Contractors.

Typically, a sign in sheet will be present. Obtaining a copy of it is a great way to find out who to market to.  Attending a Pre Bid meeting gives you a heads up about the project. Looking over the sign specs and possibly the plans before the Pre Bid meeting is a good idea.

This is a good opportunity to find out the answer to your questions.  Yes, you may have more questions later.  Another reason to have a great relationship with the General contractors.  Throughout this process remember YOU are the sign “expert”.  You may not know the answers but you can certainly find out.  Signs PDQ is happy to help with questions you may have. Don’t forget…EVERYONE attending the Pre Bid meeting will need signs!!!  Make contact, get connected, stay connected!

Getting an RFQ from Signs PDQ for Wholesale ADA Signage!

You have now been marketing to General Contractors and Project Managers by attending Pre-Bid meetings, contacting them for pre-qualification forms and following up with an occasional call or email. You are now hearing about bids and GC’s are reaching out to you for bids.  The plans for these bids need to be obtained.

The Builder’s Exchange is a great place to begin. Many cities have the BX and will offer a trial week so that you can begin to understand what they have to offer.  Once you have the plans in hand (or on your computer!) you want to read the specs to be certain this is a project you want to move forward with.  There will be various sign types on the spec sheet.  Now you will want to go to the Bid/Drawings section of the bid sheet. The category I am speaking to is the interior room signs…ADA signage.

Typically there will be several sign types that you will see drawings of.  Each drawing will be labeled with a specific letter or shape.  You will find this on the interior drawing of the building.  Look for a door schedule that will total up each sign type separately. If this schedule exists…YOU’RE IN LUCK because the signs will be counted for you!  No door schedule?

You will be counting the various signs.  The next step is formulating  your results on a spreadsheet.  Email your info to  quote@signspdq.com  We will get back to you Pretty Darn Quickly!  Read more about the process of increasing your  companies bottom line at ADA Signs Wholesale.

You’ve been asked (ITB- Invitation To Bid) by a General Contractor. When a GC requests a bid from you it is obviously courteous to respond.  Not only is it courteous, but this gives you the opportunity to develop a relationship with this contractor.  Before you decide if you will be bidding, we advise you to look over the bid and compile a list of questions you may have.  Responding to an estimator in a timely fashion is ideal….the continuing of a relationship. Get your hands on the plans! Most plans are available on line. Many GC’s have on-line plan rooms.  It is possible that they have included the link with the invitation.  If not, you will be instructed on what site to visit in order to view the plans.  If you’re fortunate a “door schedule” will exist and the sign may have been counted for you.  There will be architectural drawings that show you the types of ADA/Braille engraved signs they are looking for.  You will see what type of signs are required.  You may have to count the signs yourself and even determine  the quantity of each style.  If a symbol is designated for each ADA sign style you will need to look for these on the drawings of each level in the building.  Contact Signs PDQ at 440-951-6651  or email dotoole@signs pdq.com.

Industry News: Signs PDQ/Wholesale ADA Signs

Last week Signs PDQ attended a Pre-Bid  meeting held by a local General Contractor in Cleveland, OH.  This particular job includes the rehab of several buildings and one new building. There were many reasons why this meeting was valuable.  We have mentioned throughout our blogs that developing relationships with GC’s is beneficial.  This is an excellent opportunity to achieve this.  Prior to this walk-through we did our homework by studying the blueprints regarding all signage needed.  We formulated any questions we have.  This would be the time to get questions answered. Pre-Bid meetings are great networking events.  We met 25 contractors that may need signage for various projects. We also obtained insight into the project.  Signs PDQ was the ONLY sign company present. Upon returning back to Signs PDQ we had already received an email from the GC regarding a question we asked.  We then began formulating our quote which consisted of  about 300 ADA signs as well as dimensional numbers above the doorway of each building. Once you have counted the signs give Signs PDQ a call and we’ll estimate all ADA/engraved signage.  We’re here to help!  Visit adasignswholesale-48e673.easywp.com
